The most interesting character in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is Sodapop Curtis. He is the older brother of Ponyboy Curtis and the younger brother of Darrel Curtis. He loves both of his brothers but feels like the middleman of a tug-of-war between them. He's a drop out and works at a gas station to help support his brothers. He is part of the Greasers along with his brothers Ponyboy and Darry. Soda's personality is very unique and his many traits makes him special to the book.
One of Soda's many traits is he's hard working and determined. After his parents died, Soda dropped out of school because of his bad grades and to support his brothers. To help earn money for his brothers and himself, Soda starts working at a gas station to work on cars which he actually enjoys doing. Instead of focusing on the future of his education, Soda quit school so he can help his brothers which shows what kind of a person Soda is. Pony doesn't think Soda's made the right choice but doesn't realize that his brother enjoys working at a gas station. He's more focused on the futures of his brothers' than of his.

Another one of Soda's unique traits is happy-go-lucky and wild personality. Soda is the kind of guy who can bring you up when you feel down and lighten the situation. When the brothers are being interviewed by reporters at the hospital, he goofs around putting a smile on everyone's faces. When he is asked why he likes to fight he responds "It's action. It's a contest. Like a drag race or a dance or something.". Unlike the other Greasers who see it as a way to beat up the other guy, Soda sees it as fun, exciting challenge. This makes him different from other Greasers because of his fun and wild personality.
The most important trait of Soda that effects the relationship of his brothers, is his role as peacekeeper between his two brothers. Soda loves both of his brothers but is stuck as a middleman between his brothers ever since their parents died. When Darry gets into an argument between Pony, Soda is stuck to chose between sides. He usually protects Pony but overtime he can't handle the constant arguing. At the end of the story, Pony and Darry both realize that Soda can't handle their constant arguing and wants them to stop. This is strange for Soda because he usually has a happy attitude but hides his true feelings. In the end, Soda fulfills his role as peacekeeper and is able to brong his brothers together.
As you can see, Sodapop Curtis is the most unique and interesting characters to this novel. His many traits make him special to the Greasers and his brothers. His hard working personality helps support his brothers. His wild personality helps lift up people in the hardest of times. Lastly, his caring personality helps seal the bond between his brothers. These distinctive traits make him different from the other characters from the book. Soda's rare personality makes this book interesting in his own happy-go-lucky kind of way.
